The Colorful Houses of Burano

Colorful Houses of Burano

A couple weeks ago, I had the tough job of accompanying my DH on a business trip to Italy. We added a few days to the beginning of the trip, so it wouldn’t be all work. I found such color inspiration! Here are some of the houses on the tiny island of Burano, across the lagoon from Venice. Burano was a center for the lace making industry, but today it is just as famous for the color of the houses along its canals.

Beautiful colours and outstanding photographs Carol! Do you take the shots yourself?
I love your website by the way. đŸ™‚

Thanks, Maxine. I am happy you like them. I am rebuilding the website now, and still have a few tweaks to do. I have taken all the photos myself, except the balloon race, which is my husband’s photo. I love photography as well as quilting and dyeing!

I adored Burano. We took the first boat over in the morning so it was wonderfully quiet. The lovely old lace makers were there. If only I could speak Italian. They showed me their craft through smiles and actions. Wonder how many people visit Venice, and never take the short boat ride out to this wonderful treasure.

Wow, what saturated colors! In a week, I’ll be in Venezia and will be sure to visit Burano. Many thanks to you, your photos, and your timely notice about your great new website.

Burano is fabulous. I loved it as much as Venice, for different reasons. If you love Byzantine mosaics, take the vaporetto from Burano to Torcello, where they have a church with mosaics from the 11th and 12th centuries. They didn’t allow photography, or you would be seeing some photos of that, too! Bon voyage!
